Propel Andrew Street High School Building Expansion
The Propel Andrew Street High School expansion provides our scholars and staff with additional resources. The two-story, 8,000-square-foot addition includes the following:
- a 1,200-square-foot state-of-the-art chemistry lab
- music room
- art room
- offices for school administrators
At its core, this project is rooted in education equity, scholar self-expression and our promise to do all we can to narrow the opportunity gap for our scholars.
The original structure was built in 1956. Propel Schools has taken steps to modernize the building by adding air conditioning, installing a new boiler system and install a new roof. This addition is the first major renovation since 2012 and is meant to increase educational equity for Propel Andrew Street High School scholars.
IMPACT ON SCHOLAR SUCCESS
The new chemistry lab enables scientific exploration in a safe and collaborative environment that is conducive to the blending of mathematics and the sciences. The music classrooms uphold Propel’s long-standing focus on including the arts in our curriculum. Involvement in the arts is associated with gains in math, reading, cognitive ability, critical thinking, and verbal skills. Arts learning can improve motivation, concentration, confidence and teamwork.
